About – Romanian Evangelical Church in Geneva

We are a group of evangelical Christians, most of us Romanian, from several denominations, who have joined in one church to carry out the mandate God has given us for Geneva. We call ourselves “evangelical” because we share the values that all evangelical Christians share — Pentecostal, Baptist, and Christians according to the Gospel. We are an independent church and do not belong to any denomination in Romania, though we work with pastors and servants from all the evangelical churches of Romania. Since 2018, the Romanian Evangelical Church in Geneva has been a member of the Réseau Évangélique de Genève, the main alliance of evangelical churches in Geneva. (https://www.evangelique-geneve.ch/eglises-membres) Our vision is to glorify God, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, to make disciples of all nations, and to serve people according to the will of God, through the Holy Spirit. Loving God, serving people! is our motto. We have joined in one Body to form one Church. We welcome everyone who shares this vision to visit us and take part in our fellowship.

House of ministries: services that have an impact, evangelism, mission, house groups, and personal growth.

About

Our vision

Our vision is to glorify God, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, to make disciples of all nations, and to serve people according to the will of God, through the Holy Spirit.

Our activities

House group+

Taking part in a house group is a relational necessity. We cannot grow real spiritual relationships with other believers if we do not stay in fellowship with one another. We want to know God together and to know one another better. Why do we also meet in house groups? To worship the Lord, to study the Word of God, to share life, to rejoice together, and to help new believers find their place in the Church.

Social projects+

We take part in social projects in Romania: support for older people, study grants, and help for poor families. The area where we are present steadily is Vaslui county.

Mission+

Together with APME, our church is involved in mission in Asia, by sending and supporting a missionary family for the long term. We are also involved in mission in Romania, through a yearly camp for poor children in Vaslui county.

Men’s ministry+

A few times a year, the men of our church join spiritual fellowship with activities outside the formal setting, so they can know one another in a real way. Connection is the aim.

Children’s groups+

Work with children is one of our priorities. We want to invest in the children of the church, surround them with love, and help them serve in the Church and do good things for God.

Young explorers+

Young explorers is a small project that takes the young people of the church out of their comfort zone and connects them with nature. We join the pleasure of being outdoors with the joy of knowing one another and with spiritual fellowship. We teach practical skills (how to make a fire, how to build a shelter, what can be eaten from nature) and also what matters in the relationship with God. In one sentence: sport, health, and spirituality.

What we believe

1. We believe that God is the Creator of the universe. He is eternal and can be known, because He has revealed himself. He is living and everlasting, good, perfect, merciful, faithful, slow to anger, just, and holy. He can be known through Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, through Holy Scripture, through creation, and through his care. 2. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, one with the Father and with the Holy Spirit. He was born of the virgin Mary, died for our sins, rose on the third day, ascended to heaven, and is alive. The only mediator between God and people is the man Jesus Christ. He will return to judge the living and the dead. 3. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity. He teaches, convicts, comforts, guides, sanctifies, and strengthens the believer for the Christian life and for the witness of the gospel. 4. We believe that Scripture — the Old and New Testaments — is inspired by God and is our final authority in faith and conduct. It is sufficient for knowing God and his will. 5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, without sin, and that by a free decision he chose to sin. God did not abandon him. He prepared a way of salvation through Jesus Christ. 6. We believe that the only way of salvation is the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is received by grace and through faith, after repentance. The saved person is born again and lives a life that honours God. 7. We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, the pillar and foundation of the truth, made up of people who are born again. Its mission is worship, making disciples, strengthening believers, and serving people. In the Church all are equal, and the final authority belongs to Christ. 8. We believe that the saved person is called to a holy life. Sanctification lasts a lifetime and will be completed at the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ. 9. We believe that the Lord left the Church two acts of worship: water baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is the witness of a clear conscience. The Supper is the remembrance of Christ until he comes again. 10. We believe that the promise of baptism in the Holy Spirit is for all believers, for service and for a holy life. We believe in the gifts and the fruit of the Holy Spirit. 11. We believe that the spiritual ministries in the Church are those set out in Scripture: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Every member may serve according to the calling and the gifts received. 12. Members call one another brothers and sisters. They respect their servants, submit to one another, and take part regularly in the services. Supporting the work is an act of obedience. The Church may exercise brotherly discipline toward those who live in sin and refuse to repent. 13. We believe that the family is established by God. Marriage is the covenant of one man and one woman for life. Children are a blessing, and parents raise them in obedience to the Word. 14. We believe that the authorities of the state are established by God. Believers submit to the laws, pay taxes, and pray for the country where they live. If a law contradicts the law of God, the believer obeys God first. The Church does not discriminate between people. 15. We believe that death is the passing of the soul into eternity, in the second coming of Christ, in the resurrection of the dead, and in the final judgment. There will be a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells. Amen.
